Wood & Timber Staircase Repair in Singapore

A damaged timber staircase is a safety problem as well as an eyesore. A loose tread can tip, a split nosing can catch a heel, and gaps only get wider. We repair wood and timber staircases across Singapore, from HDB maisonettes and condo duplexes to landed terraces and shophouses. Broken pieces are replaced with matching timber, loose treads are re-fixed, and the repair is sanded and varnished to blend in. Repairs start from $350.

What we repair, by problem

Why timber stairs get damaged

Singapore's humidity makes timber swell and shrink through the year, so the glue under treads and strips slowly lets go and gaps open. Stairs also take concentrated wear: every person steps on the same spot, and the nosing takes the knocks from shoes, vacuum cleaners, furniture and pets. Water from mopping, plant pots or a leak at a window can soak into worn treads and turn them black. Most of this can be repaired without replacing the whole staircase.

How a staircase repair works

  1. You WhatsApp us photos of the damaged steps, including a close-up and one of the whole flight.
  2. We confirm a price, or visit to check for loose treads and hidden damage.
  3. Damaged pieces are cut out cleanly, old glue is removed and new matching timber is glued and pinned in.
  4. After the glue cures, the repair is sanded flush and shaped to match the nosing profile.
  5. We stain to match where needed and varnish the repaired steps, or polish the whole flight so everything looks even.

Before we arrive

  • Clear anything stored on the steps and the landing.
  • Remove stair runners, mats and baby gates.
  • Tell us about loose, clicking or damaged steps you've noticed.
  • Plan where pets and young children will be during the work.
  • If this is your only staircase, tell us so we can plan the stages.

Aftercare

Repaired pieces look fresher than the steps around them until the whole flight is polished. Many customers book the repair and staircase polishing together so the stairs look even.

Frequently asked questions

How much does wood staircase repair cost?

Timber staircase repairs start from $350. The final price depends on how many steps are damaged, whether matching timber has to be found, and whether you want the whole flight polished afterwards (from $350 per flight).

Can you match my existing timber?

We carry common species used on Singapore stairs, such as teak, nyatoh, merbau, chengal, oak and balau. For rare or very old timber we look for a close match and use stain to blend the colour.

Do I need to replace the whole staircase?

Rarely. Most damage is limited to a few treads or nosings, which we repair or replace one by one. Replacing a whole staircase is only worth considering when the structure underneath is rotten or termite-damaged.

Why does my staircase creak?

Usually a tread has come loose from the step below it, or two pieces are rubbing. We re-glue and re-fix the tread so it can't move.

Can you repair engineered timber or laminate stairs?

Engineered timber steps can be repaired and lightly sanded. Laminate nosings and treads can't be sanded, so damaged pieces are replaced. Send a photo and we'll tell you what you have.
