Discoloured Timber Staircase Restoration in Singapore
Discolouration is the most common reason homeowners call us about their stairs. The middle of each step goes grey where the varnish has worn through, treads by a window fade, water and pet accidents leave black rings, and old varnish turns yellow-orange. Each has a different cause and a different fix. We restore discoloured timber stairs across Singapore so the whole flight is one even colour again. Spot repairs start from $350; full restorations are quoted after we see the stairs.

What's included
- Diagnosis of the cause from photos or a site visit
- Sanding back to clean, bare timber
- Oxalic-acid treatment for some water stains
- Replacement of pieces with deep black stains
- Stain matching so treads, landings and floors agree
- Non-yellowing PU varnish to keep the colour
Signs you need this
- A grey or black path in the middle of each step
- Treads lighter near a window or skylight than elsewhere
- Black rings from plant pots or dark patches from pets
- Varnish that has gone orange or yellow
- Patchy colour after an old DIY touch-up

Frequently asked questions
Why have my wooden stairs turned grey?
The varnish has worn through on the walking line, so dirt and moisture get into the bare timber. Mopping makes it worse. The steps need sanding back to clean wood and re-varnishing.
Can black stains on timber stairs be removed?
Some water stains lighten with an oxalic-acid treatment after sanding. Deep black stains, usually from pet urine or long-term leaks, go right through the wood, so the pieces are replaced.
Can you make all my steps the same colour again?
Yes. After sanding we test stain on a hidden spot and match it to your treads, landing and floors before doing the whole flight.
How much does it cost to restore discoloured stairs?
Spot repairs start from $350. If only the varnish is dull, polishing starts from $350 per flight. Full sanding and colour restoration is quoted after inspection.
